The global WPC Youth Committee was set up in 2006 in response to the “serious shortage of young talented employees to replace the ranks of experienced professionals about to leave the industry”, as commented by Dr. Randall Gossen, former President of the World Petroleum Conference. The committee is intended to promote a realistic image of the petroleum industry amongst the youth together with its challenges and opportunities.
The global WPC Youth Committee encourages all member countries to actively promote and involve young people in their activities and leadership, by nominating a youth from their country to join the National Committee and global Youth Committee as well as by forming their own national Youth Committee to engage with young people in their companies and their country on an ongoing basis.
The WPC Youth provides an excellent forum for networking with other young professionals in the energy industry. Members have the opportunity to lead and participate in various initiatives such as Young Professionals Publications, such as the Youth Magazine, the WPC Youth Survey, regional topical meetings and are invited to attend WPC Youth Committee meetings around the world.
The WPC Youth Committee is also responsible for the triennial WPC Youth Forum (March 2016, Rio de Janeiro) and contributing the youth perspective to the World Petroleum Congress (22nd WPC - 2017, Istanbul.)
